Indian Police Service officer Nupur Prasad, belonging to the 2007 AGMUT cadre batch, has been selected to receive the Medal for Meritorious Service. Having completed her tenure with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), she recently rejoined the Delhi Police. Supervising the Sushant Singh Rajput Investigation
Nupur Prasad gained widespread national attention when she supervised key segments of the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The actor was found dead at his residence in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. Following a complaint lodged by the actor's family and subsequent legal challenges regarding territorial jurisdiction, the case was officially transferred to the CBI in August 2020. Serving in the central agency at the time, Nupur Prasad directed critical investigative procedures, including the recording of key witness statements, detailed forensic evaluation, and comprehensive medical record analysis. Following extensive inquiry, the CBI submitted its closure report in 2025, confirming that no evidence of foul play, abetment to suicide, or criminal conspiracy was discovered.
Early Key Responsibilities in the Delhi Police
Before joining the CBI on deputation, Nupur Prasad served in several senior managerial capacities within the Delhi Police. She held the distinction of becoming the first Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the newly established Shahdara district, where she established the foundational policing framework and operational administrative setup. During her posting in Shahdara, she directed targeted enforcement drives against organized illicit drug syndicates and illegal gambling operations while strengthening local crime prevention mechanisms. Later, as DCP of North Delhi, she managed high security arrangements for major national events, including the annual Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort and the student union elections at Delhi University.
High Profile Cases and Present Assignment in EOW
During her tenure at the CBI, Nupur Prasad was associated with several prominent national investigations. She contributed to major inquiries concerning businessman Vijay Mallya as well as the AgustaWestland helicopter acquisition matter. Her participation in these multi layered investigations reinforced her profile as a capable investigator and administrator. Upon concluding her stint at the central investigative agency, she returned to the Delhi Police as Joint Commissioner of Police in the Economic Offences Wing, where she continues to direct major economic crime investigations.
