However, sources within the Delhi Police indicate that no official directive has been issued by the government thus far. According to sources, the Delhi Police has registered roughly 20 FIRs concerning the Jantar Mantar protest and related incidents. Among these, 14 cases directly involve the protest and acts of violence, one case pertains to flying a drone without official permission, and the remaining matters relate to alleged assault and attacks on journalists.
The Legal Process For Case Withdrawal
Should the government decide to drop these legal proceedings, a specific institutional route must be followed, as outlined by police sources. Initially, the prosecution department would send a formal communication to the Lieutenant Governor stating that further prosecution in these matters is not desired. Following approval from the Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi Police would inform the concerned court of its intent not to pursue the prosecution further. Ultimately, the final authority to grant or deny permission to withdraw the cases rests entirely within the jurisdiction of the court.
Assault Cases Involving Journalists Will Not Be Dropped
Sources have firmly stated that there is no question of withdrawing the cases registered by journalists concerning the attacks they faced. In these specific matters, the complainants are the journalists themselves, and the legal proceedings will continue as before. Consequently, even if the government decides to withdraw cases related to the general protest and violence, accused individuals involved in beating and attacking journalists are not expected to receive any relief.
