A tragic incident has shaken North-West Delhi's Wazirpur industrial area, where a 47-year-old married man ended his life by self-immolation inside a utensil manufacturing factory. Investigators reported that the individual left behind a suicide note blaming the breakdown of his friendship with a 20-year-old woman for his extreme action.
Victim Hailed from Uttar Pradesh
The deceased was identified as Sandeep, a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, where he lived with his wife and two children. According to police inquiries, Sandeep frequently visited a friend's house where he grew close to the friend's daughter. The 20-year-old woman worked at the same utensil factory in Wazirpur and resided alone in Delhi.
Arrived at Factory with Petrol
Police stated that Sandeep regularly communicated with the woman over the phone. However, the woman reportedly stopped talking to him some time ago. Distressed by the distance, Sandeep travelled to Delhi on Thursday. The following day, on Friday, he carried two bottles of petrol to the utensil factory where the woman worked.
Extreme Step Followed Rejection
Upon confronting the woman inside the workplace, Sandeep placed a marriage proposal before her. When she turned down the proposal, he poured petrol over himself and ignited it. Factory workers rushed to his aid after hearing his screams, extinguished the flames, and rushed him to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and Statements
Law enforcement authorities recovered a suicide note in which the man attributed his decision to take his life to the severed relationship. The woman has denied having any kind of relationship with the deceased. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and family members were informed as investigations continue. Similar tragic incidents have occurred in the capital previously, including a case where a Class 12 student died by suicide after carrying petrol in her bag to a Delhi government school, and another incident where a man jumped from the 12th floor of Le Meridien Hotel.
