Strict restrictions under the third stage of the Graded Response Action Plan, known as GRAP-3, have been enforced across Delhi and the National Capital Region in response to the rapidly deteriorating air quality. The decision was taken after pollution levels moved dangerously close to the severe category, prompting authorities to step up containment measures.
Escalating Pollution Levels Trigger Stricter Controls
Air quality across Delhi-NCR has remained a major concern, prompting a phased escalation of anti-pollution protocols. Earlier, authorities had implemented GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 measures, introducing curbs on specific vehicles and construction activities. However, with the air quality index remaining in the hazardous zone, the implementation of the third phase became necessary to prevent further escalation.
Scope of Bans and Permitted Activities
The enforcement of GRAP-3 brings a halt to various construction and demolition activities to curb dust emissions. Local administrations and governments are also evaluating localized measures regarding schools and office work arrangements to minimize public exposure to the hazardous air.
Impact Across Neighboring Districts
The severe air quality is not restricted to the capital alone, as several districts in neighboring states within the NCR have also recorded poor to very poor air quality indices. Local bodies across these regions have stepped up monitoring and enforcement to ensure compliance with anti-pollution guidelines.
