A massive fire swept through the stilt parking area of a four-storey commercial building in west Delhi's Kirti Nagar on Wednesday evening. The blaze quickly turned fierce as parked vehicles caught fire one after another. More than 100 employees were working across various offices in the complex when thick smoke began billowing up through the floors, triggering panic and a scramble for emergency exits.
Timeline and Firefighting Response
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM at plot k 42 in the DLF Industrial Area. The fire department received the emergency distress call at 4:17 PM and promptly dispatched 6 fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters engaged in an intensive operation lasting nearly two and a half hours before completely bringing the flames under control. Prompt evacuation efforts ensured that all occupants evacuated the premises safely without any injuries.
Damage to Parked Vehicles and Complex Layout
The four-storey commercial structure stands on a plot measuring approximately 300 meters. The building houses five different operating companies across its multiple floors. The blaze originated within the ground-level stilt parking zone, resulting in the destruction of 16 parked vehicles, which included 13 cars and 4 two-wheelers. Dense smoke rapidly drifted upward through the structure, alerting staff on the upper levels to the developing emergency below.
Underlying Cause and Police Inquiries
Initial findings suggest that the spark originated inside an electrical distribution panel installed in the parking section. The flames quickly spread to an adjacent scooter before engulfing the rest of the parked automobiles. A suspected electrical short circuit in the panel is believed to be the primary trigger behind the incident. Police authorities have initiated an investigation to verify the exact chain of events and determine compliance with building safety measures.
