A major tragedy was averted in East Delhi after a vigilant local patrol team rescued a distressed woman attempting to jump into the Kondli canal with her two young children. Driven by intense domestic discord, the mother had reached the waterway with her two year old daughter and approximately one year old son. Timely intervention by the alert police personnel stationed in the Ghazipur area ensured that all three lives were pulled back to safety without injury.
Timely Intervention at Kondli Canal Edge
Overwhelmed by severe domestic distress, the woman had resolved to end her life alongside her infants and traveled to the banks of the Kondli canal. She stood right at the verge of plunging into the deep water with her two year old girl and one year old infant boy. Fortunately, a team of police personnel carrying out routine area patrolling happened to spot her frantic movements along the canal bank. Recognizing the impending danger instantly, the officers rushed toward the spot without hesitation.
Swift Action by Ghazipur Police Personnel
The rescue was carried out by female Head Constable Sadhna alongside Bipin Kumar and Sher Singh, all posted at the Ghazipur police station. Displaying exceptional presence of mind, the three officers reached the edge in seconds and secured the woman and her two infants before they could leap into the canal. After ensuring their immediate safety, the officers escorted the mother and children directly to the Ghazipur police station. Police officers sat down with the woman to understand the underlying grievances driving her to such an extreme step, while simultaneously summoning her husband and extended family members to the station.
Station Counseling and Amicable Resolution
At the police station, senior officers engaged the couple in detailed counseling sessions. Inspector Bala Shankaram, the Station House Officer of Ghazipur police station, held an extensive discussion with both the wife and husband. He emphasized that domestic conflict and hardships can never be resolved by ending one's life. The Station House Officer had the couple pledge before God that they would resolve mutual disputes constructively and commit to building a harmonious environment for their children.
A Fresh Start for the Family
To ease the emotional distress inside the station, police personnel offered chocolates to the two children, quickly bringing smiles back to their faces after a terrifying ordeal. Once the family disputes were thoroughly addressed and the relatives offered firm assurances of care and support, the woman and her children were safely reunited with their family to begin their lives anew.
