The Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) in Kanpur is preparing for its 41st convocation, an event designed to transcend traditional degree distribution by introducing several innovative traditions and major announcements. On July 9, the university will confer degrees upon a total of 107,621 students, marking a significant milestone for the institution. The graduating cohort includes 57,298 female students and 50,323 male students. During the ceremony, 92 researchers will be awarded their PhD degrees, while 51 outstanding students from various faculties will be honored with a total of 96 gold, silver, and bronze medals for their academic excellence.
Distinguished Guests and Honorary Recognition
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak announced that the Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, will preside over the ceremony. The event will feature the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Prof. Yogesh Singh, as the chief guest. State Higher Education Minister Yogendra उपाध्याय and State Minister Rajni Tiwari are also scheduled to attend. In a special gesture, the university will confer an honorary degree upon Shilpacharya Anchal P. Bijlani in recognition of her significant contributions to the field of leather crafts.
Inauguration of New Infrastructure Projects
Alongside the convocation, the university campus will see the inauguration of several new projects. The new building for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication will be opened, along with significant additions to student facilities. These include an archery lawn, a boxing ring, two new hostels with a capacity for 100 female and 100 male students respectively, a convention center, an electronics and communication building, a rehabilitation center, and a multi-specialty hospital. Additionally, a special vaccination drive for female students will be organized prior to the main ceremony.
Innovation and Welfare Initiatives
A highlight of this year's convocation is the inaugural 'Mother-Daughter Convention.' Prof. Vinay Pathak explained that this initiative serves as a shared platform to honor and motivate female students and their mothers. The ceremony will also recognize excellent teachers, sports icons, and other distinguished personalities. Furthermore, nine university-backed startups will present their innovations. To support student mental health, the 'Never Alone' app will be launched, providing psychological assistance and guidance. Simultaneously, the 'Hostel Care' app will be introduced to provide students living in hostels with immediate access to senior students and administrative support during emergencies. University officials emphasize that the 41st convocation aims to be a landmark event, symbolizing a new chapter in education, innovation, women's empowerment, and modern infrastructure.
