The box office juggernaut starring veteran icon Rajinikanth has created a new milestone by officially crossing the monumental four hundred crore rupee mark in India on its twelfth theatrical day. Continuing its dream run on the silver screen, the sequel to the blockbuster 2023 release has managed to capture the imagination of moviegoers nationwide, cementing its legacy as one of the most successful cinematic ventures in recent times.
Second Monday Dip in Box Office Numbers
While the momentum has slowed down slightly following the conclusion of the festive period, the daily collections remain remarkably strong for a mid-week phase. According to data tracked by industry analytics portal Sacnilk, the feature earned nine crore forty-five lakh rupees by eleven in the evening on its twelfth day. This marks a decrease of approximately sixty-three point two percent compared to the collections registered on the eleventh day, pushing the cumulative domestic collection to a massive four hundred and eight crore fifteen lakh rupees.
Breaking All Previous Records in Tamil Cinema
Driven by this phenomenal financial success, the action entertainer has officially emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. It has comfortably surpassed the lifetime earnings of several monumental blockbusters across both domestic and international markets, including Rajinikanth's own previous hits like '2.0' and the original 'Jेलर', as well as Thalapathy Vijay's starrer 'लियो'. Globally, the project has already amassed a staggering seven hundred and thirty-three crore thirty-five lakh rupees in just twelve days, with industry insiders predicting a final worldwide run touching between eight hundred and nine hundred crore rupees.
Capitalizing on the Festive Weekend Advantage
The strategic timing of the release played a massive role in its historic opening, arriving just ahead of the Dussehra festivities. This allowed the production to fully leverage a prolonged holiday weekend, resulting in a phenomenal opening week collection of three hundred and thirty-four crore thirty-five lakh rupees. Even after the initial festive euphoria settled, the second weekend witnessed extraordinary numbers, with the feature pulling in fourteen crore fifty lakh rupees on the second Friday, twenty-four crore fifteen lakh rupees on Saturday, and twenty-five crore seventy lakh rupees on Sunday.
Superstar Joins Fans Inside the Cinema Hall
In a rare and much-discussed gesture amidst this thunderous success, lead star Rajinikanth stepped into a public theatre for the first time in four decades to watch the movie alongside regular audiences. Accompanied by his grandson Linga, music composer Anirudch Ravichander, and director Nelson Dilipkumar, the actor visited a cinema hall in Chennai to experience the live reactions of viewers firsthand.
Expanded Ensemble Cast and Iconic Roles
Returning in his iconic persona, Rajinikanth reprises his much-loved role of Tiger alias Muthuvel Pandian. The narrative also brings back familiar faces from the first installment including Ramya Krishnan, Meena, Rithvik, and Yogi Babu. To elevate the cinematic scale further, the makers introduced a powerhouse supporting cast featuring SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan.
