Offering modak to Lord Ganesha during the auspicious festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is a deeply cherished tradition. According to traditional beliefs, modak is the favorite sweet of Lord Ganesha, making it an indispensable part of the festive offerings. In recent times, alongside traditional varieties, chocolate modak has gained immense popularity among kids, youth, and families alike. This fusion sweet combines rich festive flavors with modern taste, making it a perfect dish to prepare easily at home during the celebration.
Essential Ingredients Required
Preparing these delicious chocolate modaks requires a few simple and readily available ingredients
- Chocolate: 200 grams of dark chocolate or milk chocolate
- Mawa (Khoya): Required quantity for roasting
- Ghee: 1 teaspoon
- Flavoring & Sweeteners: Powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and cardamom powder
- Nuts: Finely chopped almonds, cashews, and pistachios
- Garnish (Optional): Extra dry fruits or chocolate chips for decoration
Step-by-Step Preparation of the Mixture
Begin the cooking process by heating a pan over low heat and adding 1 teaspoon of ghee. Introduce the mawa into the pan and roast it continuously on low flame for 4 to 5 minutes until it turns a light golden shade. Once roasted, stir in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Keep stirring the mixture constantly to ensure no lumps are formed and all components blend evenly.
Next, melt 200 grams of dark or milk chocolate using either a double boiler method or a microwave. Once the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, pour it into the warm mawa mixture and blend thoroughly. Add the finely chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios, and cardamom powder into the bowl, stirring well so that all ingredients are uniformly distributed.
Shaping and Chilling the Modaks
Allow the prepared mixture to cool down for a few minutes. When the dough reaches a comfortable lukewarm temperature that can be easily handled by hand, begin shaping the modaks. If you have a modak mold, press the mixture firmly into the mold to get a defined shape. Alternatively, if a mold is not available, you can carefully shape the modaks by hand.
Once all the modaks are formed, place them on a tray and refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes. Refrigerating allows the melted chocolate to solidify completely, ensuring that the modaks hold their shape perfectly and maintain a nice firm texture when served.
Offering as Bhog and Sharing Prasad
After chilling, your delightful chocolate modaks are ready to be presented. You can enhance their visual appeal by garnishing the tops with chopped nuts or chocolate chips. Serving as a harmonious blend of traditional devotion and modern culinary taste, these modaks can be offered as sacred bhog to Lord Ganesha before being distributed as prasad among family, friends, and guests.
