A complex situation has unfolded around a student from the polytechnic college in Badu, located in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. The student, Sarvesh Kumar, is currently receiving medical treatment at PGI after falling from the third floor of his college building. What initially appeared to be a tragic fall has taken a complicated turn as inquiries revealed that a purported grant of Rs 3.50 crore from the military for developing a drone was completely fabricated. Army officials contacted the college management to clarify the matter, exposing the falsity of the funding claim and prompting a multi-angled police investigation into cyber fraud and the circumstances of the fall.
Police authorities have stepped up their inquiry into the incident. Led by ASP Rajesh Sharma, a police team visited the Badu technical institute to inspect the hostel premises thoroughly and record the statements of Sarvesh's fellow students. The ASP also met with institute Principal Chandrashekhar to gather details regarding the processes connected to the alleged military drone project. According to preliminary findings, Sarvesh returned to his hostel room during the lunch break at around 1:30 PM, bolted the door from the inside, and subsequently fell from the balcony roof. Investigators are working to determine why the student fell and whether he was being targeted by online fraudsters.
Reports indicate that Sarvesh Sharma had received a document bearing official military insignia, which claimed he had been awarded a Rs 3.50 crore project to manufacture drones for defense use. Trusting this paperwork, the college management moved forward and garnered significant attention, though the institution never independently verified the claim. Principal Chandrashekhar stated that he received a call from military representatives on October 15, which initiated the internal check. By October 27, defense officials requested the student's records and subsequently spoke with him directly.
Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh Thakur noted that police cannot comment on the specifics of the claimed military grant and formal procedures while the investigation remains active. The primary focus of law enforcement is ascertaining why Sarvesh fell from the hostel building, though officials have not ruled out the possibility that he jumped. Following the incident, Sarvesh was transferred from Hamirpur to PGI for advanced care. Bhorj MLA Suresh Kumar visited him at the PGI trauma center to check on his condition. Medical professionals scheduled a surgery for Sarvesh, who suffered fractures to his jaw and legs while miraculously avoiding head injuries.
A notable detail in the background of the student is that he previously received a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh after participating in an event in Jodhpur. This success has raised questions about whether he became the target of cyber criminals, leading to extreme distress. Hamirpur police are maintaining caution and continuing their examination of all available evidence without rushing to conclusions. Meanwhile, the military organization IDEX DIO posted on social media to clarify that the reports circulating over the past two months regarding a Rs 3.50 crore grant for Sarvesh Sharma are entirely false, emphasizing the need for proper verification. IDEX is an initiative launched in 2018 under the Department of Defense Production within the Ministry of Defense to foster innovation in the defense sector.
