Faridabad Mohna Bus Stand Built at Cost of 3.16 Crore Rupees Remains Inoperative for Months Leaving Passengers from 30 Villages Stranded

A newly constructed bus terminal in Mohna near Ballabhgarh, built at a cost of 3.16 crore rupees, remains idle nearly a year and a half after completion. Due to delays in takeover by Haryana Roadways, residents across 30 villages continue to face commuting difficulties.

Thousands of daily commuters in the Mohna region of Ballabhgarh, located within Haryana's Faridabad district, continue to face severe public transport hardships despite the presence of a newly completed facility. Constructed at an estimated cost of 3.16 crore rupees, the Mohna bus stand has remained entirely non-operational for nearly a year and a half after structural completion. Although the modern station building stands fully erected, Haryana Roadways has yet to formally assume administrative control or initiate bus operations. Consequently, local commuters remain forced to await buses under the open sky in varying weather conditions without shelter or proper waiting amenities.

Inter-Departmental Delays Keep 3.16 Crore Rupee Facility Closed

The proposal for a designated bus terminal in Mohna was initially announced approximately six years ago by the state's former Chief Minister and current Union Minister Manohar Lal. To translate the promise into infrastructure, the Haryana Roadways administration transferred approximately 3.16 crore rupees to the Public Works Department (PWD) in January 2023 for construction. PWD completed the structural development of the bus station by April 2025. However, despite the physical completion of the building, procedural bottlenecks and a lack of departmental coordination between PWD and Haryana Roadways have prevented the formal handover of the premises, leaving the multi-crore investment unused.

The prolonged delay in launching regular bus services has significantly impacted daily transportation for the local population. Mohna resident Bachchu Singh highlighted that despite the building being ready for around a year and a half, neither an official inauguration nor bus scheduling has taken place. Operationalizing the facility would immediately serve 25 to 30 surrounding villages in the rural belt. Beyond connecting residents to nearby hubs such as Ballabhgarh and Palwal, the terminal is slated to offer crucial transit links toward Uttar Pradesh and the upcoming Jewar International Airport.

Another local resident, Deepak, noted that commuters currently rely heavily on auto-rickshaws for short and medium distances, incurring high out-of-pocket travel expenses every day. The commencement of scheduled state transport buses would lower travel costs substantially for students, workers, and daily commuters traveling toward Faridabad, Delhi, Palwal, and regional routes in neighboring Uttar Pradesh.

Lack of Maintenance and Waste Accumulation Threaten Building Integrity

The continuous non-use of the terminal premises has also given rise to sanitation concerns around the site. Surendra, who operates a chaat stall adjacent to the bus station, pointed out that large garbage heaps have accumulated behind his stall and right along the boundary wall of the new bus stand. The accumulation worsens significantly during the monsoon season, creating unhygienic surroundings. While local village leaders and municipal officials frequently pass by the location, no systematic cleanup or maintenance drive has been conducted.

Community members express growing concern that continued administrative delay in commissioning the facility could lead to physical deterioration of the structure due to neglect and weather exposure. Residents have urged state authorities and transport officials to resolve inter-departmental issues immediately, take custody of the Mohna bus stand, and begin regular bus operations for the welfare of the public.
