During a District Public Grievances Redressal Committee meeting in Panipat, Haryana Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa addressed key administrative issues and responded to growing public concern over escalating food prices. With consumers feeling the strain of rising inflation, particularly the sudden jump in sugar rates, Gangwa clarified the state administration's position. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the meeting, the minister stated that the government plays no role in determining sugar prices, classifying the surge entirely as a market-driven development.
Ethanol Blending and Sugarcane Shortage Drive Sugar Price Rise
Sugar prices have recently registered a sharp increase of Rs 20 per kilogram in the market. The price hike is largely attributed to supply constraints linked to sugarcane procurement. A significant portion of sugarcane output is currently being directed by growers toward ethanol blending initiatives. This shift toward biofuel production has led to a reduced supply of sugarcane for conventional sugar processing facilities, impacting overall market availability and pushing prices upward.
Investigation into Panipat Hospital Incident and Strict Action Promised
The minister was also questioned regarding a grave incident at the Panipat government hospital involving the alleged sexual harassment of a female patient who subsequently died during treatment. Addressing the issue, Gangwa stated that law enforcement authorities have already registered a formal case. He clarified that the accused individual is associated with a private firm rather than the hospital hierarchy, emphasizing that hospital staff members had no involvement in the offense. Gangwa instructed administrative officers to ensure strict legal action against the accused strictly in accordance with statutory procedures.
Grievance Redressal and Administrative Accountability
A total of 15 grievances and local complaints were presented before Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa during the grievance redressal session. The minister conducted a case-by-case review, seeking explanations directly from the designated departmental officials. Instructing the administration to prioritize public welfare, Gangwa underscored that administrative laxity in addressing citizen grievances would not be tolerated and mandated that all submitted complaints be resolved promptly under established rules.
