A 34-year-old techie from Gurugram left home for work like any other day and never made it back. Sarthak Mattu was allegedly run over by a speeding Thar on a road in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, and the vehicle sped off, leaving him writhing on the road. The accident has left his family shattered.
How the accident unfolded
The incident took place on the morning of June 25. Sarthak was riding his bike to his office in Noida when, near the Rajokri flyover, a speeding Thar coming from behind rammed into his bike. Witnesses said the impact was so severe that Sarthak was thrown onto the road and suffered critical injuries.
A birthday that turned into mourning
Sarthak's father, Surender Mattu, said the most painful part of the tragedy is that Sarthak's 34th birthday fell just two days after the accident. The home that was supposed to be filled with birthday celebrations now stands in silence and grief.
A father's anguish, an appeal to Modi and Shah
Surender Mattu said, 'My son was riding carefully and wearing a helmet. They hit him and left him writhing on the road before fleeing. If they had taken him to a hospital, my son might have been alive today.' Grieving the loss of their son, the parents have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for justice.
A passerby's call, then the news no parent wants to hear
After the accident, a passerby picked up Sarthak's mobile phone and used it to inform his colleagues and the police. Sarthak was rushed to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead.
Two arrests, but the family's questions remain
Delhi Police traced the Thar using CCTV footage, seized the vehicle and arrested two accused in the case. However, the family alleges that the accused were made to undergo medical and blood tests nearly 50 hours after the incident, a delay that has raised several questions. Sarthak is no longer alive, but his elderly parents are still waiting for justice. Their question is simple: how long will innocent people keep falling victim to speeding vehicles on the road, and how long will accused drivers keep fleeing the scene, leaving victims to die?
