Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Haryana today, where he will flag off the country's first hydrogen train. Projects worth a total of ₹26,000 crore are set to have their foundation laid during this visit, and of that, Haryana alone will get road, health, education and railway projects worth around ₹15,000 crore. Just ahead of the visit, however, a threatening call to the Chandigarh police control room on Thursday set off a security scare among the agencies guarding the event.
Bomb hoax call triggers panic ahead of the PM's visit
On Thursday, a call came in to the Chandigarh police control room in which the caller claimed that a bomb had been planted at the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi's programme was to be held and that it would be blown up. Chandigarh police and the administration swung into action immediately, using human and technical intelligence to trace the source of the call. The investigation revealed that the call was made by Avinash, a 37 year old resident of Sector 24 in Chandigarh. Avinash works a private job and is reported to be a habitual drug user. During questioning it emerged that he made the threatening call to the police control room while under the influence of drugs. Police registered a case at Chandigarh's Sector 3 police station and took the accused into custody.
Kiran Chaudhary and Shruti Chaudhary hold joint press conference in Bhiwani
Ahead of the PM's visit, former BJP MP Kiran Chaudhary and her daughter Shruti Chaudhary, a minister in the Nayab Saini government, held a joint press conference in Bhiwani. Shruti Chaudhary thanked Chief Minister Nayab Saini for completing every single project of the irrigation department. Kiran Chaudhary said the Prime Minister would inaugurate the Bhiwani Medical College, built through Shruti Chaudhary's efforts. She said running a hydrogen train is a big step by Prime Minister Modi towards making the country self reliant, and that it will cut the country's dependence on oil. Kiran Chaudhary thanked PM Modi, saying that whenever he visits Haryana, he carries out historic work.
Haryana to receive development projects worth ₹15,000 crore
Giving Haryana a major gift, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹15,000 crore. The aim of these projects is to strengthen road, health, education and railway connectivity across the state.
The full list of projects
- Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway (around ₹9,700 crore): once complete, the journey from Delhi to Katra will come down from 14 hours to around 6 hours.
- Jind-Gohana national highway (₹1,600 crore): will cut travel time from 2 hours to just 40 minutes.
- Ambala-Kala Amb national highway (₹1,200 crore): will improve connectivity between Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
- Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College, Bhiwani (₹600 crore): will have a 630 bed hospital and 100 MBBS seats.
- Maharishi Chyawan Medical College (₹900 crore): will offer a 650 bed hospital, 100 MBBS seats and OPD facilities.
- Kurukshetra elevated railway track (₹400 crore): will remove five railway crossings and ease traffic jams.
- Sikh Museum, Kurukshetra (₹160 crore): an initiative to carry the legacy and history of the Sikh Gurus to the new generation.
- Hansi-Barwala national highway (₹140 crore): will improve road connectivity between Hisar and Panchkula and boost agriculture and local trade.
