The Haryana state government has transferred Faridabad Municipal Corporation Superintending Engineer Ombir Singh to Yamunanagar district with immediate effect. The disciplinary move comes in the wake of mounting public outrage over an audio recording in which the official allegedly used offensive language against a local municipal councillor. Remarkably, this marks the first time in his nearly 37-year career that the senior official has been posted out of Faridabad.
Outrage Among Purvanchal Community Triggers Action
The controversy originated a few days ago when an audio recording began circulating across social media platforms. The clip reportedly captured a conversation between the Superintending Engineer and a local councillor, featuring objectionable remarks made by the official. The recording sparked widespread resentment, particularly among members of the local Purvanchal community, who subsequently announced plans to convene a community meeting on Sunday.
Prior to the scheduled assembly, a delegation led by former Congress MLA Neeraj Sharma submitted a formal memorandum to the Minister of Urban Local Bodies. The representatives demanded swift official action against the engineer for his alleged misconduct. As online criticism mounted alongside preparations for local demonstrations, the state administration intervened on Sunday to issue the transfer directive relocating him to Yamunanagar.
Public Apology Precedes Government Transfer Order
Anticipating the growing backlash ahead of the planned community gathering, Ombir Singh released a video statement seeking to defuse the situation. In the broadcast, the official appeared with folded hands to extend an unconditional apology, maintaining that he had no intention of hurting anyone's sentiments.
During the video message, Singh also stated that he was previously unaware of the specific audio recording that caused the widespread public dispute. However, the apology failed to alleviate the discontent among community members and local political leaders, prompting the state authorities to proceed with his immediate transfer.
Three Decades of Continuous Service in Faridabad Ends
Singh's professional trajectory in the municipal administration spans several decades within a single city. He was originally appointed as a Junior Engineer in the Faridabad Municipal Corporation back in 1995. Over the years, he steadily climbed the organizational ladder, serving in various capacities before being elevated to the post of Executive Engineer.
Roughly three years ago, he was promoted to the position of Superintending Engineer within the same municipal body. Throughout his entire career spanning approximately 37 years, Singh had never been transferred outside Faridabad until this recent order compelled his relocation to Yamunanagar district.
