In an effort to upgrade regional highway infrastructure in Haryana, the central government has sanctioned an investment of Rs 340.78 crore for the development of a 2.75-kilometer-long, six-lane elevated corridor at Sohna Chowk in Nuh district. Once fully constructed, this elevated project aims to eliminate persistent vehicular bottlenecks and provide permanent relief from recurrent congestion to hundreds of thousands of commuters, commercial freight carriers, and local residents across the district.
Strategic Location at NH-919 and NH-248A Junction
The proposed elevated corridor will be constructed directly over the major junction connecting National Highway-919 (NH-919) and National Highway-248A (NH-248A), widely recognized as Sohna Chowk. This intersection serves as an indispensable transit node for traffic moving continuously between Gurugram, Sohna, Nuh, and nearby industrial zones. The sanction comes in direct response to rapid urbanization and steadily intensifying vehicular volume across this corridor, ensuring uninterrupted transit for both passenger and heavy freight traffic.
Segregating Long-Distance Transit From Local Traffic
A primary objective of this engineering intervention is the systematic physical segregation of through traffic moving along the Gurugram-Nuh route from local intersection movements. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari stated on a social media platform that elevating through lanes will allow transit vehicles to operate on an entirely signal-free, seamless alignment. Meanwhile, surface-level carriageways will remain dedicated to local turning traffic and cross-movements, putting an end to prolonged idling at intersections and drastically lowering travel time.
Seamless Link to DME and KMP Expressway Corridors
Beyond resolving intersection friction, this corridor will significantly reinforce arterial integration with two primary national highway networks: the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME) and the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. Because Sohna Chowk serves as an indispensable access gateway to these mega corridors, optimizing its capacity will directly benefit long-haul logistics, interstate manufacturing supply chains, and passenger mobility. Enhanced road efficiency at this focal point is expected to provide substantial economic momentum across adjacent industrial zones.
Distinction From Existing Corridor Commissioned in July 2022
This upcoming project is distinct from the previously completed elevated highway operating along NH-248A between Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram and Sohna, which was opened to vehicular traffic in July 2022. While that earlier six-lane stretch established rapid connectivity from Gurugram, this new 2.75-kilometer structure is specifically engineered to untangle the severe geometric bottleneck located at Sohna Chowk itself, creating adequate long-term capacity for mounting regional traffic volumes.
Commercial Expansion and Road Safety Benefits
NH-919 connects Palwal with Rewari via Sohna and Dharuhera, while NH-248A serves as a direct artery linking Gurugram to the Rajasthan border through Sohna and Nuh. Both national highways support heavy daily volumes of freight trucks, multi-axle trailers, and local commuter vehicles. The establishment of this dedicated grade-separated corridor will curtail vehicular conflicts, reduce accident hazards at the junction, and unlock fresh commercial, industrial, and tourism avenues across southern Haryana and adjoining border regions.
