A severe domestic altercation took a deadly turn late at night in Cheli village, located within the Padhar sub-division of Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district. A son intervened to stop his heavily intoxicated father from abusing his mother, but lost his temper during the confrontation and struck his father on the head with a heavy wooden implement. The blow proved fatal, and law enforcement authorities have since apprehended the young man.
Intervention in Midnight Quarrel Ended in Violence
The incident occurred at approximately 12:00 midnight in Cheli village. The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Mast Ram, son of Budhu Ram, who earned his living as a compressor operator. According to case details, Mast Ram arrived home under the heavy influence of alcohol and began verbally abusing his wife. Hearing the disturbance from an adjacent bedroom, his son Deepak, who works as a mechanic, rushed in to de-escalate the tension. Deepak attempted to calm his father down, but Mast Ram refused to stop hurling abuses. Infuriated by his father's relentless hostility, Deepak picked up a wooden tool known locally as a baihla and delivered a forceful blow to Mast Ram's head.
Son Rushed Injured Father to Hospital
Immediately following the assault, Mast Ram collapsed with severe head trauma. दीपक called the 108 ambulance service and personally transported his injured father to Padhar Hospital in an attempt to save his life. Medical personnel at the facility examined Mast Ram upon arrival and officially declared him dead. The hospital authorities then notified the Padhar police station, prompting an immediate police response to the medical center.
Interrogation Led to Confession
During the preliminary examination of the body, investigating officers noted that the deep laceration on Mast Ram's head could not have been caused by an accidental fall. The injury clearly indicated a direct strike with a weapon or blunt object. When police officers questioned Deepak regarding the circumstances of the injury, he confessed to striking his father with the wooden implement during the heated confrontation.
Forensic Examination and Custody
Following the disclosure, Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Padhar Lokendra Negi and a forensic team inspected the crime scene in Cheli. Forensic specialists documented the site and collected physical evidence related to the fatal strike. The police also officially recorded Deepak's formal statement in the presence of local panchayat pradhan Sunita Devi and up-pradhan Prem Singh. SP Vinod Kumar stated that Mast Ram's body was transferred to the Government Medical College in Nerchowk for an autopsy, while Deepak remains in custody as legal proceedings move forward.
