A serious construction accident took place in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Friday afternoon when a section of an under-construction iron bridge over the Hathli Khadd stream suddenly collapsed. The incident occurred at Masiana, where workers were actively engaged on the structure. Two laborers fell straight down as the iron framework gave way, sustaining severe injuries, while five other workers became stranded around the damaged structure. The unexpected structural failure triggered immediate panic at the site as emergency services moved rapidly to launch rescue measures.
Midday Collapse During Four-Lane Corridor Work
The bridge construction is being carried out as part of an active four-lane highway project connecting Koli and Nadaul across the Hamirpur district. Construction crews were busy with regular assembly work on the iron span across the Hathli Khadd when the mishap occurred at around 2:00 pm on Friday. As a portion of the iron structure collapsed, rescue teams and administrative officials were dispatched to the spot without delay. Heavy machinery and specialized equipment have been deployed at the site to reach and rescue the five workers who remain stranded on and around the damaged framework.
Injured Workers Moved to Hamirpur Medical College
Police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after receiving news of the structural failure to assist in clearing access and coordinating rescue operations. Both injured laborers were swiftly moved into ambulances and transferred to the Hamirpur Medical College hospital for emergency treatment. Medical personnel reported serious injuries to both workers, noting that one remains in critical condition. Authorities and emergency response personnel are continuing their operations on the ground to ensure that the trapped workers are safely brought down as quickly as possible.
