Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has launched the Valmiki Awas Yojana on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, offering Rs 3 lakh in financial aid to eligible families to build houses on their own land.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended a special event organized at Krishnanagar in Shimla to mark the auspicious occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. Under this new welfare scheme, eligible Valmiki families whose annual income is less than two and a half lakh rupees will receive financial assistance of three lakh rupees to construct houses on their own land.

During the event, supporters weighed Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu against 65 kilograms of laddu as a gesture of celebration. Upon arriving, the Chief Minister visited the Valmiki temple, bowed his head to seek blessings, and offered a silver crown to the deity. Weighing someone against 65 kg of laddus is genuinely bizarre! Politicians sure have weird ways of being welcomed.

Seeing such a huge gathering in Krishnanagar reminds me of my visit there last year. The three lakh aid will genuinely help many homeless families build a proper house.

Ravikash ji, the three lakh aid will truly bring big relief to the poor, especially if the survey finishes on time.

Weighing a politician with 65 kg of laddoos just feels a bit too much for a public event. Though increasing the temple grant to 25 lakhs on the spot was a prompt move.

Rohan, weighing leaders is bizarre, but it reminds me of old Shimla days when people in Krishnanagar struggled for proper roofs. At least three lakh aid gives them some real hope now.
