The revelation, posted the day after the ceremony took place, quickly became a major talking point across online platforms.
First Wedding Photograph Shared Across Platforms
Taking to Instagram, Omar Abdullah uploaded a portrait with Nidhi Razdan alongside a brief note that read, 'कल से एक नए सफर की शुरुआत हुई।' Tagging Razdan in the upload, he simultaneously confirmed the marriage on the social media platform X. The formal announcement drew widespread attention online as followers and observers reacted to the development.
Wedding Takes Place Three Months After Supreme Court Divorce Order
The wedding has taken place roughly three months after the Supreme Court formally dissolved Omar Abdullah's earlier marriage to Payal Abdullah. On July 31, 2026, the apex court issued an order dissolving the union between Omar Abdullah and Payal Abdullah. During proceedings, both sides conveyed to the bench that they were seeking to end the matrimonial tie by mutual consent. They also agreed to settle all pending disputes and withdraw legal proceedings initiated against one another.
Dissolution Granted Under Article 142 by the Apex Court
The matrimonial matter had reached the highest court after Omar Abdullah challenged a previous Delhi High Court ruling that had declined to grant him a divorce. During the hearings before the Supreme Court, both parties submitted a joint application seeking a divorce by mutual consent under Article 142 of the Constitution. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing both sides, informed the court that the differences between the two had been resolved and both parties consented to ending all outstanding disputes amicably.
Background of the 1994 Marriage
Omar Abdullah married Payal Abdullah in 1994 after the two originally met while working at the Oberoi Hotel in Delhi. They have two sons from that marriage, named Zahir and Zamir. The couple had been living apart since 2009, with Omar Abdullah formally making the separation public in 2011. The Supreme Court also noted during its hearing that both individuals had resided separately for an extended period prior to the formal decree.
