Agricultural experts emphasize that farmers who have vacant land or unplanted fields should immediately focus on short-duration paddy varieties. Cultivators are advised to select crop varieties that mature within a 90 to 110 day cycle rather than standard long-duration crops, allowing them to optimize the remaining moisture without exposing crops to late-season dry spells.
Recommended Short-Duration Varieties for Late Paddy Transplantation
To ensure steady yields despite late planting, Dr. Vinod Pandey recommended several suitable short-duration paddy varieties for local farmers. Among these options is Swarna Shreya, which matures in roughly 110 days and is currently available through the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Farmers can also choose short-duration varieties including Abhishek, Vandana, Naveen, and Anjali. These cultivars are specifically matched to the agro-climatic conditions and soil characteristics of Palamau. Additionally, farmers may consider Krishna Vikas Dhan-101 as another effective short-duration choice capable of delivering strong production within a shorter cultivation period.
Agronomic Guidance for Upland and Medium Land Cultivation

Given the current weather patterns in Palamau, farmers are urged to avoid crop varieties that demand heavy water inputs. In paddy cultivation specifically, opting for regular short-duration varieties is far more advantageous under present circumstances than choosing hybrid varieties that require extensive irrigation.
