Tension flared inside the Barwadda police station in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand following a violent clash between supporters of Dumri MLA Jairam Mahato and representatives of a local village body. The conflict erupted when the legislator arrived at the police station to lobby on behalf of a suspect detained in a fake document creation case. As supporters of the local village head were also present at the premises, verbal arguments quickly escalated into physical scuffles and assault inside the police station, creating widespread chaos.
Origin of the Fake Certificate Dispute
The incident stems from an investigation into fraudulent caste certificates generated using forged signatures and official stamps belonging to Bada Pichhari Panchayat head Yashoda Devi. Following a complaint submitted by the village head's representative, the Barwadda police initiated action and detained a youth named Ganesh Das for questioning at the station.
Choking Allegations and Physical Assault
The situation turned chaotic when Dumri MLA Jairam Mahato arrived with his followers to intervene on behalf of the detained suspect. Around 10 PM on the night of August 21, Pradeep Rajak, the son of village head Yashoda Devi, reached the Barwadda police station to meet his father Ashutosh Rajak, who had been summoned for questioning in connection with case number 129/26. According to Pradeep Rajak, the lawmaker used abusive language and casteist slurs against him inside the station premises.
Police Intervention and Written Complaint
In his formal written complaint submitted to the Barwadda police, Pradeep Rajak alleged that MLA Jairam Mahato grabbed him by the throat with the intention to kill, leaving visible scratch marks on his neck. He further alleged that the legislator's supporter, Sushil Mandal, along with others, kicked, punched, and slapped him during the melee. Police personnel present at the scene intervened to separate the opposing groups and bring the situation under control. Following the altercation, angry supporters of the village head demonstrated inside the station complex demanding strict legal action against the MLA. Police are currently conducting an investigation into the claims.
