By doing so, the government aims to generate new employment opportunities locally, which will help curb migration and boost the rural economy. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries are provided with various options of livestock and poultry so they can choose the best fit based on their specific resources and location.
Standard Criteria for Goat and Poultry Allocation
To ensure structured implementation, the scheme has laid down specific standards regarding the number of animals and birds provided to each beneficiary. For instance, those who opt for goat farming are eligible to receive 8 female goats and 2 male goats. This ratio is deliberately planned to allow livestock rearers to naturally breed and expand their herd, eventually building a profitable enterprise. On the other hand, the scheme also offers highly attractive options for individuals interested in poultry farming. For meat production, beneficiaries are provided with 500 broiler chickens. Conversely, if a beneficiary prefers egg production, the program allocates 400 layer chickens. Additionally, duck farming is also supported under the scheme, giving people the flexibility to select livestock based on their expertise and local market demand.
Ninety Percent Subsidy for Setting Up Infrastructure
A key highlight of this program is that the government does not merely distribute livestock and step back; it also provides comprehensive financial support for their feed, care, and shelter. For example, poultry farmers receive assistance not only for the initial bird feed but also for constructing secure sheds and installing proper cages. Because of this extensive financial backing, rural beneficiaries are spared from bearing the heavy burden of initial setup costs alone. The government provides a massive subsidy of up to 90 percent across various categories. This means that a beneficiary only needs to invest a very nominal portion of the total cost out of their pocket, enabling even the most economically disadvantaged families to establish a stable source of income.
