In the wake of recurring irregularities and challenges in recruitment examinations, the Jharkhand government is overhauling the operational framework of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. A high-level committee led by the Development Commissioner has been established to reform the functioning of both commissions, with the Personnel Secretary and Finance Secretary appointed as members.
Committee to Review Service Conditions and Reforms
The newly formed panel will not only recommend procedural improvements for the commissions but will also propose guidelines regarding the service conditions of officers and staff members. This oversight extends to the appointment procedures and service terms of the chairpersons and members of both bodies. Additionally, the administration has issued directives to eliminate existing loopholes and errors in the rulebooks governing various recruitment examinations.
Shift Toward CBT Mode and Multi-Stage Exams
To fundamentally eliminate threats such as paper leaks and administrative compromises, the state government is actively considering conducting examinations through Computer-Based Testing modes. The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission has already prepared a formal proposal outlining this transition. Furthermore, authorities are exploring the implementation of multi-stage testing structures to reinforce security and fairness across all recruitment cycles.
Thousands of Vacancies Slated for Appointment
A total of 23,610 vacancies are scheduled to be filled through the two commissions during the current year. Out of this total, 1,645 positions are designated for recruitment via the JPSC, while 21,965 posts will be filled through the JSSC. These figures encompass both positions already advertised by the commissions and requisitions submitted by various state departments whose formal advertisements are yet to be published.
Current operational figures indicate that recruitment for 798 posts under the JPSC was previously underway but has since been put on hold or deferred, with advertisements for another 847 posts pending publication. Meanwhile, the JSSC currently has active recruitment processes ongoing for 20,206 posts, alongside 1,759 positions slated for future advertisement and fulfillment under the revised operational guidelines.
