New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded in the national capital where three young men lost their lives after drowning in Sanjay Lake. All three victims were reported to be between 22 and 25 years of age. Local authorities, including the fire department and Delhi Police, were alerted about the emergency around 7:30 PM. According to police accounts, the sequence of events began when one of the youths entered the water body to bathe, prompting his two companions to dive in to rescue him, which ultimately led to all three drowning.
Police stated that a PCR call was received at approximately 7:24 PM reporting the drowning incident near Kotla Village and Tempo Market within the Pandav Nagar police station jurisdiction. Upon reaching the site, rescue teams and divers retrieved the three victims from the water. Although they were pulled out, the young men were unresponsive and were rushed to LBS Hospital, where further medical and legal formalities are underway. The deceased individuals are identified as local residents of Kalyanpuri, while police are actively verifying their exact names, residential addresses, and other background details.
Rainfall and Severe Waterlogging Disrupt Traffic
Meanwhile, the tragic event coincided with adverse weather conditions as heavy rainfall struck Delhi on Tuesday evening. The downpour triggered widespread waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions across multiple localities. The Palam area bore the brunt of the wet spell, where an inundated underpass trapped commuters in massive traffic jams for hours. Motorists heading towards the airport faced significant delays as arterial routes ground to a halt.
Similar chaotic conditions were witnessed at the Mehrauli underpass, where water accumulation blocked both entry and exit lanes heading towards the airport, resulting in a prolonged traffic gridlock. Evening commuters returning from their workplaces found themselves stranded for hours awaiting clearance. Although municipal authorities deployed pumps on both sides to drain the accumulated rainwater, the measures proved insufficient. With water levels exceeding three feet inside the Mehrauli underpass and over three hours passing without significant drainage, traffic normalization was severely delayed.
Recent Incidents in the Capital
In addition to this incident, the capital has recently witnessed other grave security concerns. Prior to this, a shocking case emerged where a female student was assailed inside an empty sleeper bus, leading to the prompt arrest of the bus driver and conductor. Furthermore, another dispute at a local dhobi ghat in Delhi resulted in a 25-year-old man being stabbed to death by his friend, with the accused being successfully apprehended by law enforcement.
