The integration of modern technology and agricultural machinery in farming has proven to be immensely beneficial for cultivators. While traditional farming methods demand substantial physical effort and long hours from farmers, innovative agricultural tools available in the market are simplifying various farming operations. Farmers across Koderma are currently busy preparing their fields for the upcoming potato crop. In this scenario, progressive farmer Krishna Verma has set a remarkable example for others by successfully utilizing a modern agricultural implement in his fields.
Innovative Use of Ridge Maker in Potato Farming
Krishna Verma utilized an agricultural tool known as a ridge maker to prepare his field for potato cultivation. With the help of this modern equipment, he managed to create ridges for potatoes on approximately 20 decimal of land in a mere 20 to 25 minutes. He noted that utilizing traditional methods for constructing ridges in an area of this size would typically require two to three people to spend nearly the entire day working hard. The adoption of modern machinery has resulted in major savings of both time and manual labor.
The Importance of Ridge Preparation in Potato Cultivation
Field preparation holds special significance in the successful cultivation of potatoes. The process begins with thorough ploughing of the land. Following this, a rotavator is operated to pulverize the soil, creating favorable conditions for planting potatoes. Once the soil is properly prepared, the task of building ridges commences. Constructing ridges through traditional means requires considerable physical exertion by farmers. Ensuring uniform ridges across the field demands both time and extensive labor.
Purchasing the Modern Equipment for Rs 8500
Recognizing the utility of modern farming equipment, Krishna Verma recently gathered information about the ridge maker and purchased it. The market price of this agricultural device in Koderma is reported to be around Rs 8500. He deployed the tool during the preparation phase of his potato fields. According to Krishna Verma, after ploughing the land two to three times and running a rotavator to make the soil crumbly, he deployed the ridge maker to shape the ridges. The implement enabled the completion of ridge creation on about 20 decimal of land within just 20 to 25 minutes.
Uniform Ridges Bring Convenience to Farming
He explained that a major advantage of using the ridge maker was that almost all the ridges in the field turned out uniform in size. This made the field look organized and simplified the subsequent preparation for planting potatoes. While this task previously required two to three individuals to toil for an entire day, the modern tool allowed the work to be finished in a fraction of the time, enhancing overall farming efficiency.
