Young skaters representing Palamu made a strong impression at the 16th Jharkhand State Skating Championship held at the Khelgaon skating track in Ranchi, securing a total of 14 medals. Organised by the Roller Skating Association of Jharkhand, the tournament saw the Palamu contingent claim 5 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals, earning the district fourth place in the overall state rankings. Young female athletes led the medal haul, capturing multiple top honours across competitive divisions. Following this strong regional performance, the qualified skaters have commenced preparations for the upcoming national-level championship scheduled to take place in Bengaluru.
Over 300 Contenders Clashed on Khelgaon Track
The state-level championship gathered more than 300 young skaters from various districts across Jharkhand. Palamu was represented by a 25-member contingent from the Daltonganj Skating Training Centre. Competing across diverse age brackets and race formats, the young athletes demonstrated speed and technical control, securing 14 podium finishes. For a squad of 25 participants, returning with 14 medals highlighted the technical progress made by skaters emerging from the district training setup.
Avnoor Kaur Clinches Triple Gold in Individual Events
Among the standout performers of the tournament was Avnoor Kaur, a Class 6 student from Palamu who swept her events to claim 3 gold medals. Kaur shared that her primary objective heading into the championship was to secure gold, and rigorous practice sessions helped translate that aim into reality. She noted that watching skating clips on YouTube first sparked her interest in the sport, leading her to take up regular training under formal guidance. Following the regional sweep, Kaur has set her sights on securing top honours at the national level.
Podium Finishes Across Age Divisions
In addition to Kaur's triple gold, other young skaters from the district delivered notable performances across their respective categories. Smita Gupta dominated the 6 to 8 age division, securing 2 gold medals. Astha Goswami put up a versatile performance to finish with 3 total medals, consisting of 1 silver and 1 bronze. Apurvi Singh added to the tally with 1 silver and 1 bronze. In further individual events, Aradhya Agrawal claimed a silver medal, while Ved Pandey, Aditya Gupta, and Ridhima Sinha each earned bronze medals to solidify the district's overall medal count.
Bengaluru to Host National Championship in December
Reflecting on the squad's results, skating coach Chandan Kumar noted that all 25 participants from the Daltonganj Skating Training Centre contributed to Palamu finishing fourth in the state standings. Kumar highlighted that young girls particularly drove the district's medal tally through disciplined racing. The qualified athletes have now shifted their attention to the upcoming national competition, which will take place in Bengaluru from December 5 to December 15. Training routines have already resumed on the track as the skaters prepare to compete against contenders from across the country.
Grassroots Progress in Regional Athletics
The performance of students ranging from Class 1 to Class 6 shows how early coaching and structured access can develop talent in sports outside the traditional mainstream. With steady training and backing from families, young athletes in Daltonganj and surrounding areas are increasingly pursuing competitive roller skating. Sports enthusiasts across the region now await the December 5 start in Bengaluru, where Palamu's junior skaters will look to carry their momentum onto the national stage.
