A serious document verification anomaly has surfaced during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. In the Barhait block, administrative scrutiny revealed identity documents registered under two separate names for what appears to be the same individual. Crucially, both document sets feature the exact same unique Aadhaar number. In older records, the woman is listed as Mita Devi, whereas newer paperwork identifies her as Fatima Bibi. Following a formal grievance regarding this duplication, state election authorities have ordered a comprehensive probe.
Marital History and Identity Transition
According to the case details and background information, Mita Devi originally hails from the Godda district. In the year 2012, she entered into matrimony with Pritam Kumar Chandra, a resident of Barmasia located in the Barhait block of Sahibganj. As per the allegations outlined in the official complaint, she subsequently contracted a second marriage with Nazrul Ansari. Following this alliance, her name was officially recorded as Fatima Bibi. The complaint asserts that separate sets of legal and civil documents were systematically procured under both identities.
Identical Aadhaar Figures Expose Documentation Discrepancy
The discrepancy came to light precisely because the unique identifier failed to diverge across both documentation profiles. Both cards, bearing the names Mita Devi and Fatima Bibi respectively, displayed the identical Aadhaar number. To support the inquiry, the complainant submitted copies of both Aadhaar cards along with PAN cards and associated identification records. The complaint further alleges that a falsified family pedigree or genealogy certificate was fabricated to legitimize the newly assumed identity for official records.
Genealogy Register Used for Electoral Enrolment
During the ongoing voter list revision exercise, the individual was mapped to the household of Nejamuddin Momin. A formal family pedigree certificate was subsequently drafted, portraying Fatima Bibi as one of Nejamuddin Momin's six children. Scrutiny revealed that this genealogy document carried the verification signatures of the local village head as well as relevant revenue officials. It is alleged that this approved family lineage was deployed as the foundational proof to secure an entry on the voter register.
Chief Electoral Officer Mandates Formal Investigation
Addressing the gravity of the irregularity, Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar directed administrative authorities to conduct an exhaustive inquiry into the entire sequence of events. The senior official noted that complaints had been received regarding illicit enrollments in the voter register within Barhait. He confirmed that two Aadhaar cards belonging to a single woman had emerged, both reflecting an identical registration number. The investigation into the lineage certificates and supporting records will establish the administrative level at which the lapses occurred and pinpoint the individuals accountable.
