A case of a married woman being strangled to death has emerged from Dharwad in Karnataka, with allegations that her husband repeatedly taunted her over her weight. Police have arrested the husband along with three other family members, and the investigation is ongoing.
The deceased has been identified as Priyanka, and the accused husband as Basavaraj. According to her family, the two were married two years ago, while details that emerged during the investigation state that Priyanka and Basavaraj were married in the year 2024.
Marriage Started Smoothly, Then Tension Grew
For the first few months of the marriage, their married life remained normal, but tension gradually began building between the two. Priyanka's family alleges that her in-laws continuously harassed her for dowry and pressured her to bring money and gold from her parental home.
Taunts Over Weight, Claims She Could Not Bear a Child
The investigation also revealed that Basavaraj frequently made comments about his wife's increased weight. He would taunt Priyanka by calling her very fat and would also say that she could not bear a child because of her weight. These very issues often led to quarrels between the two.
The Incident on Monday Night
According to Karnataka Police, an argument broke out between the two again on Monday night. It is alleged that during this altercation, Basavaraj strangled Priyanka to death. The police investigation also found that the accused tried to hide the incident.
Case Registered After Family's Complaint
After suspecting the circumstances surrounding Priyanka's death, her family lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, Navalgund police registered a case of murder and dowry harassment. Following the investigation, police arrested Renavva, Subhash and Siddaramesh in addition to husband Basavaraj. The investigation into the case is currently underway.
