Two Incidents Within 24 Hours Across Local Church Cemeteries
The consecutive thefts occurred at two separate locations managed by the Mar Thoma Church. The initial incident took place at the Mankuzhipadi Mar Thoma Church cemetery, where a substantial granite slab covering a grave belonging to the Thannikkal family was removed and taken away. Within 24 hours of that initial theft, a second incident occurred at the Mar Thoma Church graveyard located in Mallappally. In this instance, a granite slab covering a grave of the Thaikottathil family vanished overnight.
According to details mentioned in the official police complaint filed by church authorities, the granite slab stolen from the Mallappally graveyard was approximately six feet in length and three feet in width. Relatives and church members discovered the missing stone when they arrived at the cemetery for morning prayers, only to find the resting spot left completely exposed.
Police Suspect Organized Gang and Pre-Planned Theft
Following formal complaints from the church management, law enforcement officers launched an investigation into the mysterious thefts. Based on preliminary assessments, police officers believe that the crime could not have been executed by an individual working alone.
