When natural almonds soak for several hours, their skin softens evenly and peels off effortlessly, revealing a clean white or pale cream kernel underneath. Conversely, artificially coated or substandard almonds resist peeling, and the internal nut may exhibit an uncharacteristic yellow or pale tone.
