Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition and DMK youth wing chief Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested on Tuesday (August 4, 2026) after a ruling TVK member lodged a complaint accusing him of delivering misogynistic remarks during a rally in Thanjavur a day earlier. The allegations against the leader detail that he uttered improper, double-meaning comments directed towards an actor during his address. Following the complaint, the Thanjavur East Police booked the DMK politician under BNS Sections 196, 192, 352, 79, 296(b), 61, and 351(2), along with Section 4 of the TNPHW Act and Section 67 of the IT Act. Legal proceedings have been initiated to challenge the arrest as political tensions rise with DMK supporters.
