The Meghalaya High Court's decision to uphold bail for Sonam Raghuvanshi, the primary accused in the Indore honeymoon murder case, has delivered a fresh blow to the family of victim Raja Raghuvanshi. The ruling broke open a flood of grief and anger that the family had been holding back, and they spoke candidly to the media, making it unmistakably clear that their legal battle is far from over and will now be fought at the country's highest court.
Father Ashok's Resolve: The Fight Moves to the Supreme Court
Raja's father Ashok Raghuvanshi did not hide how deeply the High Court's verdict had shaken him. He acknowledged that the Meghalaya High Court had ruled against the family but said firmly that this was not the end of the road. He announced that the family would now knock on the doors of the Supreme Court. He stated that as long as there is breath in his body, he will keep fighting for justice for his son Raja. Getting justice for Raja, he said, has become the sole purpose of his life.
Sharp Criticism Directed at Police and Government
Ashok Raghuvanshi also directed pointed criticism at the police and the government over how this case has been handled. He alleged that it was precisely because of the police's weak and ineffective action that Sonam Raghuvanshi was able to secure bail. Speaking with visible emotion, he said, "The government is sitting with its eyes closed. It is because of this negligence that many husbands are losing their lives today." He demanded that Sonam's bail be revoked without delay and called for no legal exemptions to be granted to women who commit crimes of this nature. His words conveyed the pain of a man who believes that the failure of the system is costing innocent families everything.
Mother Uma's Fear: Will the Other Accused Walk Free Too?
Raja's mother Uma Raghuvanshi appeared equally devastated by the court's decision. She said Sonam should have been sitting behind bars, not walking free outside. Uma Raghuvanshi expressed a deep fear that now that Sonam has been granted bail, the other accused in the case, Raj, Aakash, and Anand, could also secure release from jail soon. She said that verdicts like this one had completely destroyed whatever faith she had left in the legal system.
Why Uma Brought Up Siya's Name
Uma Raghuvanshi also brought up another accused named Siya in her remarks. She said that just as Sonam committed murder, Siya has also committed murder. With Sonam now out on bail, the family fears that within a few months, Siya too will walk out of prison. The family firmly believes that when criminals are not punished, it only emboldens others like Sonam and Siya, who then feel they can escape the consequences of their actions. Uma Raghuvanshi also said that while Raja has still not received justice, she at least wants to see Ketan get justice. Her words carried the raw pain of a grieving mother whose appeals to the legal system have so far gone unanswered.
