Cancer-Stricken Ratlam Man Says Wife Remarried Without Divorce, Court Issues Arrest Warrant

A Ratlam man, Akash Jat, has accused his wife Sakshi of remarrying without ever divorcing him, prompting a court to register a case under Section 82(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and issue an arrest warrant against her.

A love story that began on Instagram in Ratlam has now landed squarely in court, after a husband accused his wife of remarrying without ever getting a divorce. Akash Jat, a resident of Rajasva Colony in Ratlam, filed a complaint against his wife Sakshi, prompting a JMFC court to register a case under Section 82(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and issue an arrest warrant against her. The court has also ordered Sakshi to appear before it on July 25.

An Instagram Friendship That Turned Into Marriage

Akash and Sakshi first connected on Instagram, and what began as an ordinary online friendship gradually grew into a serious relationship. Wanting to formalise that bond, the couple married at the Arya Samaj Mandir in Indore on November 20, 2022. Sometime later, with the consent of both families, they held a second wedding ceremony following social customs, so the marriage would also be recognised within their communities.

Cancer Diagnosis Brought Growing Tension

Not long after the wedding, Akash was diagnosed with cancer of the windpipe, essentially throat cancer. As his treatment progressed, tension between the couple kept building and trust between them started to break down. Sakshi filed an assault complaint at a women's police station and, separately, filed a divorce petition in family court.

Family Court Rejected the Divorce Plea

The family court went on to dismiss Sakshi's divorce petition. In its order, the court stated plainly that the evidence on record did not sufficiently support the allegations she had raised against Akash.

A Second Marriage While the Case Was Pending, Then an Arrest Warrant

According to the complaint, while the divorce case was still pending before the court, Sakshi married a man from Chhatarpur on June 10, 2024, and the couple went on to have a daughter together. After learning of this, Akash filed a criminal complaint through his lawyer. Despite the court issuing summons to Sakshi on multiple occasions, she repeatedly failed to appear. The court eventually issued an arrest warrant against her and directed her to appear before it on July 25.
