A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, where a woman who was trying to get her husband to quit drinking ended up bearing the brunt of his fury instead. The husband allegedly attacked her with a pair of scissors in a fit of rage, leaving her severely injured, before fleeing the scene. The incident happened in the Madhogunj police station area, and the woman is now undergoing treatment in hospital while police search for her husband.
Fed up with abuse and alcoholism, Dolly had moved back to her parents' home
The incident took place in Pritampur Colony under the Madhogunj police station area of Gwalior, where Kamal Sen lives in a rented house. Kamal works at a salon in Morena. He married Dolly Sen, a resident of Gudha village, in 2010, and the couple have two children, a 12-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. Dolly has alleged that Kamal has been addicted to alcohol since their marriage and would frequently harass her and the children whenever he was drunk. Tired of the constant beatings and his drinking habit, Dolly had been living at her parents' home for close to two months. She had reportedly laid down a clear condition before Kamal that she would return to live with him only if he gave up alcohol for good. She had returned to her parents' house hoping the separation would push him to change his habits.
He broke his promise and drank again, then turned violent on returning home
On Sunday, Kamal called Dolly over to his house and assured her that he would not touch alcohol again. Trusting him, Dolly went to his house with both children, after which the family also went out together. Dolly has alleged that on the way back home, Kamal secretly consumed alcohol somewhere along the route. When they reached home and Dolly found out and questioned him about it, Kamal, already under the influence, reacted furiously and turned violent. What had begun as a family outing meant to rebuild trust between the couple ended in violence within minutes of their return home.
8 to 10 blows with scissors, 12-year-old son intervenes to save his mother
Enraged, Kamal picked up a pair of scissors lying in the house and launched a brutal attack on Dolly without a second thought, stabbing her 8 to 10 times. Their 12-year-old son, who was present at home, bravely intervened and somehow managed to save his mother's life. After the boy's intervention, Kamal fled the spot. The critically injured Dolly was rushed to the trauma centre of Jayarogya Hospital for treatment, where her condition is currently stated to be serious and doctors are keeping her under continuous observation. Doctors treating her have not yet given any further update on her recovery.
Woman also accuses in-laws, police launch search for accused husband
While undergoing treatment in hospital, Dolly has also levelled serious allegations against her in-laws, claiming that Kamal harasses her with the backing of his parents. According to Dolly, Kamal's father, Ramsahay Sen, was posted with the Datia police and has recently retired. Dolly said she now fears for her life at the hands of her husband, Kamal. On being informed of the incident, police from Madhogunj police station reached the spot and began investigating. Police have registered a case against the accused husband, Kamal Sen, and are conducting raids at various locations in search of him. Investigators are also examining Dolly's allegations against her in-laws as part of the case. Police said the accused is expected to be arrested soon.
