Sunday witnessed three separate tragic drowning incidents originating from the Indore and Maheshwar areas, resulting in the deaths of two boys while another young man was swept away by strong currents as search efforts extended late into the evening. Despite repeated warnings issued by local authorities, tourist negligence continues to put precious lives at severe risk.
Tragedies at Lodhiya Kund and Choral Dam Claim Two Lives
The first incident occurred at the popular Mhow tourist spot known as Lodhiya Kund, where a 17-year-old teenager visiting for a picnic ventured into deep water while bathing and drowned. Promptly responding to the alert, police personnel and local rescue teams rushed to the site and successfully retrieved his body after considerable effort. A second fatal accident unfolded at Choral Dam, where a 15-year-old boy visiting with his friends wandered near deep waters. His footing suddenly slipped, plunging him into the reservoir. Bystanders attempted a rescue operation, but due to excessive depth, their efforts failed. Professional divers later recovered his lifeless body from the water.
Youth Swept Away in Strong Currents at Sahasradhara in Maheshwar
The third mishap was reported from Sahasradhara in Maheshwar, where a 30-year-old man was caught in the ferocious river currents of the Narmada River. Onlookers raised an alarm upon spotting the youth drifting away in the water. Upon receiving information, local police units, State Disaster Response Force personnel, and professional divers immediately launched an extensive search operation. However, due to the intense water flow, no trace of the missing individual could be found by late evening, and rescue teams continue their persistent search efforts.
Safety Warnings Ignored for Dangerous Stunts and Selfies
During the monsoon season, accurately gauging water levels and hidden depths in rivers, ponds, and dams becomes exceptionally difficult. The forest department and police administration have installed barricades and warning boards at sensitive locations such as Choral and Lodhiya Kund. Nevertheless, visitors frequently venture into restricted and perilous zones in pursuit of selfies, swimming thrills, and adventure. Authorities have once again strongly urged the general public and tourists to avoid approaching water bodies during the rainy season and to strictly adhere to safety protocols to prevent such fatal mishaps.
