Naval Singh Malviya, a resident of Bhawani Nagar locality in Sironj, had been rearing a pet goat named Katori alias Chameli for 20 years. Malviya explained that the family never treated her as a mere domestic animal, but rather raised her like a daughter. The goat slept inside the home on a bed and shared a constant presence with family members. When she passed away on August 3, the household experienced profound grief, feeling as though a core family member had departed.
Formal Cremation with Civic Approval and Ash Immersion at Prayagraj
Following her death on August 3, Naval Singh Malviya obtained necessary approval from local administrative authorities to perform a proper cremation. After completing the cremation ceremonies in accordance with traditional customs, he carefully collected the remaining ashes. He then journeyed to Prayagraj to immerse the ashes in the river Ganga, fulfilling sacred rites that are typically reserved for human relatives.
Printed Condolence Cards and a 500-Guest Terahvi Feast
Upon completing the immersion rituals, the family scheduled the customary 13th-day mourning ceremony, known as Terahvi, for August 15. The family printed formal condolence invitation cards and distributed them to neighbors, acquaintances, and extended relatives. On the day of the ceremony, a large community feast was organized, catering to approximately 500 attendees who gathered to share meals and offer condolences.
