A brutal crime in Manipur's Kamjong district, located along the international border with Myanmar, has drawn severe condemnation from human rights advocates. The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights has stepped forward to demand a thorough and impartial inquiry into the harrowing abduction, sexual assault, and subsequent murder of a local Kuki woman.
Accusations Leveled From Churachandpur
In an official statement released from the Churachandpur district, the organization pointed fingers directly at cadres belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah, holding them responsible for the heinous act. According to the organization, the victim's body was discovered completely naked and severely mutilated, bearing unmistakable marks of extreme physical violence and sexual abuse. Characterizing the incident not as a mere isolated crime but as an act of profound brutality, the group emphasized that such actions demonstrate a total disregard for human life and fundamental moral standards.
Outrage Over Dignity and Accountability
The rights organization asserted that the desecration of the victim's remains represented an affront to the dignity of all women and humanity at large. Furthermore, the group claimed that Kuki women residing in regions dominated by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah have repeatedly endured targeted atrocities while the perpetrators continue to evade punishment. Citizens everywhere were urged to raise their voices against this form of violence to deter similar occurrences down the line.
Demands for Government Action and CBI Probe
Emphasizing the vulnerability of remote border populations, the organization called upon authorities to prioritize the safety and security of women living in isolated regions. Both the state and central governments were formally requested to order an immediate and impartial investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation, capture those accountable, and bring them to justice swiftly. Additionally, authorities were urged to provide robust security arrangements for Kuki villages situated across the Kamjong and Ukhrul districts.
Support for the Bereaved Family
Alongside calls for financial compensation and proper rehabilitation for the victim's family, the organization appealed to various civil society groups, women's commissions, and human rights watchdogs to extend their support to the grieving relatives. Offering heartfelt condolences to the family, the group reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with all survivors of sexual violence, underscoring that public silence must never be misinterpreted as acceptance.
Meanwhile, the Kuki-Zo Council also voiced its strong condemnation on Friday regarding the killing of the community member, which took place in the Kamjong district a day prior, while reiterating the urgent need for an unbiased investigation into the matter.
