Domestic Equities Open Cautiously Higher as Cement and Banking Shares Support Benchmarks

Indian benchmark indices opened Wednesday with marginal gains, led by buying in Eternal and UltraTech Cement while Tata Steel led the laggards.

Trading in the domestic equity market commenced on a modestly positive note on Wednesday, carrying forward momentum from the prior trading session. Both primary stock indices kicked off the morning session on 26 August, 2026, slightly above their previous closing levels. Strong interest across select banking, infrastructure, and consumer goods shares helped offset selective weakness across metal and information technology counters, allowing equity benchmarks to maintain their position in the green territory during opening exchanges.

Opening Trajectory for Major Benchmarks

Right at the start of Wednesday's dealings, the 30-share BSE benchmark climbed by 236.01 points or 0.30 percent, establishing its opening print at 77,892.10. Meanwhile, the broader 50-share NSE barometer experienced a comparatively subdued opening tick, inching upward by merely 7.40 points or 0.03 percent to open at 24,341.95. This mild advancement built upon the positive conclusion recorded during Tuesday's market action, when indices wrapped up the day in positive territory and laid a supportive baseline for the midweek trading bell.
