Indian equity benchmarks stepped into the first week of November carrying firm positive momentum following an aggressive rebound from the sharp decline witnessed in the preceding week. The benchmark Nifty 50 recorded an advance of 2% across the five-day trading period, while the BSE Sensex climbed 1.83%. As market participants gear up for the festive atmosphere surrounding Diwali, broader market direction will hinge tightly on key technical chart structures, institutional capital flows, corporate earnings releases, international macroeconomic cues, and sector-wise performance dynamics.
Core Drivers Supporting the Broader Market Turnaround
The swift revival in market sentiment was propelled by a combination of domestic and global developments. A substantial round of short covering across frontline stocks played an immediate role in lifting prices, while a noticeable easing in selling pressure from foreign portfolio investors offered much-needed breathing space. On the global front, a decline in US 10-year Treasury yields helped soothe risk sentiment and encouraged fresh capital allocations toward emerging equities. On the domestic corporate front, financial scorecards for the September quarter generally beat prevailing consensus expectations, injecting confidence into the trading floors. Positive management commentary, led particularly by upbeat operational insights from Trent, lifted overall sentiment, while widespread value hunting in beaten-down segments such as banking, financial services, IT, realty, and FMCG ensured that the recovery remained broad-based.
Institutional Inflows Signal Renewed Participant Conviction
A pivotal catalyst behind the turnaround was the shift in institutional positioning. Foreign institutional investors transitioned into net buyers over the week, deploying a net sum of Rs 7,767.16 crore into domestic equities. Domestic institutional investors mirrored this positive posture by pumping in net inflows worth Rs 3,109.79 crore. Sustained participation from both institutional cohorts remains paramount for preserving the current market stability. As the new trading week unfolds, market watchers will closely monitor whether institutional buyers sustain this momentum, alongside corporate quarterly disclosures and fluctuations in international bond yields.
Nifty 50 Navigates Crucial Moving Averages and Technical Thresholds
On the technical setup, the Nifty 50 staged a solid 2% recovery after taking strong support around its critical 200-week exponential moving average (EMA). Over the past five weeks, the index has repeatedly rebounded from this long-term trendline, indicating that a solid base-building process is underway and underlying buying appetite is gradually strengthening. Looking ahead, the immediate support pocket for the index is identified between 22,850 and 22,800, which aligns closely with its 21-day EMA. Any minor corrective dips toward this zone are expected to attract renewed buying interest from positional traders.
Highlighting the critical technical levels, Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services Ltd, noted that a decisive drop below 22,800 could reignite aggressive selling pressure, potentially dragging the index down toward the 22,500 mark. Conversely, on the higher side, 23,300 stands as an immediate obstacle. A sustained breakout above this resistance threshold is likely to reinforce bullish control and trigger an extended buying wave targeting 23,600. Consequently, price action between the 22,800-22,850 support band and the 23,300 ceiling will serve as the litmus test for whether the market can extend its upward march into Diwali.
Bank Nifty Shows Momentum Revival Despite Underlying Caution
The banking sector mirrored the broader optimism, with the Bank Nifty rebounding by 0.74% after enduring losses in the previous week. Nevertheless, the banking gauge continues to hover beneath its 21-day EMA, signaling that the broader underlying structure calls for measured caution even as short-term momentum shows distinct signs of improvement. Offering encouragement to market bulls, the daily Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator has crossed into positive territory, delivering an early technical signal of a potential structural recovery.
Providing further technical clarity, Ravi Singh from Master Capital Services Ltd pointed out that 54,000 serves as the primary support zone on the downside, where brief price dips could present attractive accumulation opportunities for traders. However, a decisive violation beneath 53,500 would materially weaken the chart framework and invite fresh rounds of intense liquidation. On the upside, 55,000 represents the primary hurdle. A decisive breakout above this barrier would unlock fresh bullish impetus, paving the way for an advance toward 55,700 in subsequent sessions.
Sectoral Participation and Global Macroeconomic Signals
The trajectory of foreign and domestic institutional money will remain the foremost barometer of market resilience. Sustained net buying across both segments will be vital to underpin the ongoing rally, whereas any unexpected resurgence in foreign outflows could cap upside progress. Concurrently, market participants will scrutinize upcoming corporate earnings reports and management outlooks to assess operational margins, domestic consumption trends, and multi-quarter revenue visibility across diverse sectors. In parallel, global financial variables, particularly moves in US Treasury yields and shifting expectations surrounding central bank interest rate trajectories, will continue to exert influence. Lower bond yields tend to expand equity valuation multiples, while any renewed surge in borrowing costs could dampen risk appetite. The sustained participation of heavyweights across banking, financial services, IT, pharma, realty, and FMCG will ultimately decide whether the ongoing rally broadens across midcap and smallcap spaces.
