Financial allocations aimed at accelerating regional connectivity, educational access, and grassroots livelihood initiatives reached ₹42.63 crore across the northeastern states in September 2026 through the North Eastern Council. The capital rollout specifically targets community infrastructure, institutional training facilities, and agriculture across remote hill districts, ensuring that regional development plans progress without fiscal disruption.
From the aggregate disbursement, ₹35.21 crore was transferred directly to fund public schemes across the eight regional state administrations. An additional ₹7.42 crore was channeled into specialized regional councils and premier academic centers to bolster technical capability, institutional capacity, and technological modernization. Nagaland secured the largest single state allocation, taking in ₹11.92 crore to finance its Cluster-Based Coffee Value Chain Development programme alongside the construction of a dedicated Cultural Activity Complex at Pfutseromi Village for the Chakhesang Tribe.
Allocation Breakdown Across the Eight States
Mizoram was granted ₹6.29 crore to fund a diverse group of works. These initiatives comprise the ongoing construction of an auditorium at Bethel Veng in Champhai, cultural tourism infrastructure in Vangchhia, Mizo Ginger farming support, information technology-driven mineral mapping, and essential community facilities in Siaha District. Assam received ₹4.42 crore to support modern student hostels at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College located in Kokrajhar, as well as dedicated social initiatives for the Singpho community in Tinsukia.
Sikkim secured ₹4.17 crore to set up townwide CCTV surveillance networks and construct a Multi-Purpose Hall at Government Degree College in Rhenock. Arunachal Pradesh was provided ₹3.40 crore to build a dedicated nursing hostel at District Hospital in Yingkiong, develop the Acheso tourism complex situated in Dibang Valley, and enhance the Ziro Signature View Point. Both Tripura and Manipur received project instalments as well. In Tripura, funding is earmarked for a tribal youth Model Haat, upgrades to Khumulwng Eco-Park, and events commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. Manipur will utilize its share to catalog medicinal plants, build a Museum-cum-Library at the Tribal Research Institute, and deploy river debris collection installations.
Empowering Regional Bodies and Technical Agencies
Out of the ₹7.42 crore dedicated to regional organizations, the NE Cane and Bamboo Development Council received ₹2.88 crore to foster specialized bamboo artisan clusters. The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation was allotted ₹2.35 crore to carry out handloom skill development programs. To support foundational scientific learning, NECTAR received ₹1.24 crore to set up STEM laboratories in remote educational institutions. Supplementary resources were directed to NEDFi, NIT Meghalaya, IIM Shillong, North-Eastern Hill University, and NESAC to support their operational and educational activities.
Closure of 14 Infrastructure Works Costing ₹45.48 Crore
Alongside the fresh capital infusion, September also saw the formal closure and delivery of 14 vital infrastructure undertakings amounting to ₹45.48 crore. Meghalaya recorded the completion of new school buildings at Mawthadraishan in West Khasi Hills built at ₹4.75 crore, as well as the Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban cultural complex at Lum Shat Sngi Kenches Trace in Shillong costing ₹9.28 crore.
In Nagaland, authorities finalized the Music and Youth Activity Centre at Yasogei in Kohima valued at ₹9.17 crore, alongside an auditorium featuring primary civic amenities at Phek Government High School costing ₹1.92 crore. Arunachal Pradesh wrapped up construction on a G+1 girls' hostel at JN College in Pasighat worth ₹4.27 crore, while Sikkim concluded the Backward Community Scheme for the Limboo Community costing ₹4.53 crore.
Three agricultural rural development schemes in Assam's Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong reached completion with ₹11.55 crore in total financial assistance from the council. These covered Lumbajong Development Block at ₹4.97 crore, Sarmen Hanse village within the same block at ₹1.97 crore, and Chinthong Block in West Karbi Anglong at ₹4.61 crore. Further completed works include seven prototype processors for bamboo value-addition through NECBDC worth ₹2.10 crore and an expansive IT Education Programme covering 150 schools across Mizoram valued at ₹11.08 crore. Training bridge-funding for AVGC and IT-ITES, an Emerging Technologies Seminar focusing on AI, NSSS 2026, and the She-Friendly Programme spanning 20 institutions in Shillong were also formally concluded, demonstrating the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region's commitment to community infrastructure and educational growth.
