Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called upon the younger generation in the state to acquire proficiency in Hindi while remaining deeply rooted in their Mizo language, heritage, and unique cultural identity. Speaking at an official gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that picking up an additional language should be viewed as an intellectual and professional asset rather than cultural assimilation.
Balancing Language Acquisition with Mizo Identity
The address took place during a Hindi Diwas celebration organized by the Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha at the Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall in Aizawl. Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted that the Union Government has been actively promoting the use of Hindi across the country, making its knowledge increasingly essential for everyday communication and career advancement. He encouraged young people to feel comfortable speaking Hindi and enjoying Hindi songs, provided they never lose sight of their own native traditions.
At the same time, the Chief Minister issued a word of caution regarding the preservation of local roots. He stressed that ignoring or setting aside the Mizo language and traditional customs could gradually undermine and dilute the broader identity of the community over time.
Educational Milestones and Career Growth
Reflecting on administrative and legislative progress, Lalduhoma recounted his earlier tenure as a Member of Parliament when he worked to expand Hindi education across Mizoram. He noted that official recognition for Matric and Intermediate examinations in Hindi was successfully achieved in the state in 1988. This educational foundation was further expanded in 2000 when recognition was granted for BA degree examinations in Hindi. He clarified that learning Hindi ought to be treated purely as mastering a useful language, not as imitating or adopting an alien culture.
Dignitaries and Facilitation of Achievers
The event was attended by several prominent figures, with School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana gracing the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The proceedings were presided over by Lalchungnunga, Vice President of the Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha. Devotional prayers were led by Rev. R.K. Lalawmpuia, while R.B. Lalmalsawma, Chairman of the Sabha, delivered an address to the assembled audience.
During the ceremony, formal recognition and certificates were awarded to individuals who recently earned their Ph.D. degrees in Hindi. Additionally, Traffic Police personnel who successfully completed a specialized Spoken Hindi Course were honored for their efforts to improve public communication capabilities.
