The Mizoram government has formally commenced preparations for the Winter Festival 2026. Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called for coordinated efforts across various administrative bodies to promote the state as the Winter Capital of India while expanding avenues for local entrepreneurship and economic growth.
High-Level Review Meeting Convened
The strategic planning session took place at the P&PI Conference Hall on Monday. The meeting saw active participation from Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar alongside senior officials representing multiple government departments.
Vision for the Winter Capital of India
During the deliberations, Lalduhoma stated that the state administration is actively working toward establishing Mizoram as the Winter Capital of India, identifying the Winter Festival as a foundational initiative for this vision. He noted that the festival will function as an instrument to highlight and accelerate local business ventures and entrepreneurial talent.
Inter-Departmental Collaboration and Responsibilities
The Chief Minister underlined that although the Department of Tourism is spearheading the festival, its ultimate success relies heavily on active participation and convergence among all government arms. He explained that officials from diverse departments were convened so that each branch could independently explore and take charge of initiatives achievable within its respective domain.
Planned Events and Departmental Contributions
Several diverse events have been mapped out for the Winter Festival 2026. The Fisheries Department will organize an angling event, the Commerce and Industries Department is slated to host a Bamboo Innovation Exhibition, and the Information & Public Relations Department will put together a dedicated photography exhibition.
Festive Celebrations and Christmas Activities
Beyond the departmental exhibitions, the festival itinerary incorporates vibrant Christmas-themed activities. These celebratory programs will feature elaborate street decorations and a traditional Christmas Parade, complemented by a wide array of cultural, recreational, and promotional events.
