The government of Mizoram has officially approached the central authorities in New Delhi with a formal request to set up an Employees’ State Insurance Corporation hospital within the state boundaries. State Labour Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar pressed for these vital administrative additions during his discussions with Union Labour, Employment and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Alongside the healthcare infrastructure demand, the state representative also sought elevated central financial assistance to bolster regional sports development through the Khelo India initiative.
Addressing Population Norms for Healthcare
During the deliberations in the national capital, Hmar explained the structural hurdles faced by the administration. He pointed out that Mizoram features a relatively small population base, which creates obstacles in meeting standard eligibility thresholds for establishing a dedicated ESIC healthcare facility. Despite this demographic constraint, the volume of registered beneficiaries under the scheme continues to climb steadily. Consequently, the state urged the central leadership to account for these specific regional conditions and growing registrations. In response, the Union minister assured that the matter would be duly examined and could feature in the upcoming ESIC board deliberations.
Boosting Sports Infrastructure and Welfare
Apart from healthcare expansion, the discussions encompassed broad labor welfare measures and youth development programs. Minister Hmar, who oversees the sports portfolio, submitted dedicated proposals aimed at securing higher funding allocations under the Khelo India program to upgrade local sports facilities. The central leadership acknowledged the ongoing administrative progress in implementing regional labor policies and confirmed that the sports funding proposals would receive due consideration during upcoming financial distributions.
