The Chakma Autonomous District Council located in the Lawngtlai district of Mizoram has rolled out a new linguistic initiative to give students regular opportunities to practice and improve their language skills. Under this fresh framework, every Wednesday will officially be observed as Mizo Speaking Day across all primary and middle schools operating under the direct jurisdiction of the council.
Committees Formed to Draft Guidelines
To ensure the smooth rollout of the language initiative, a dedicated committee has been established under the leadership of Satish Chakma, who serves as the Office Superintendent of the Primary Education Department. This panel is tasked with framing the detailed modalities and operational guidelines required for the programme. These administrative decisions were finalized during an educational review meeting convened at the CADC headquarters situated in Kamalanagar. The deliberations on Sunday were presided over by Doymoy Daveng Chakma, the Executive Member holding charge of the education portfolio.
Adoption of New Educational Framework
Moving forward with broader administrative reforms, the council formally resolved to adopt the National Education Policy starting from the 2027-28 academic session. This transition will strictly follow the policy guidelines and framework established by the Mizoram government. The District School Education Board, alongside other relevant administrative branches, will spearhead the preparatory groundwork and formulate implementation protocols for the updated educational structure.
Teacher Transfer Rules and Literacy Programs
During the same administrative session, the council granted in-principle approval to the draft regulations concerning the transfer and posting of elementary school teachers. A separate review committee headed by education officer Punya Jagat Talukdar has been entrusted with examining and finalizing these draft rules by October 10 before they are submitted to the executive committee for formal ratification. Furthermore, the administration plans to roll out a structured literacy drive across the region, pending fund availability and final executive clearance.
Mindfulness Sessions for Students
In addition to academic and administrative updates, the council mandated that every Friday will feature a ten-minute Anapana meditation session in all council-run primary and middle schools to support student wellness.
