A high-level developmental meeting took place at the Chief Minister's office in Aizawl, where Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma engaged in extensive discussions with NITI Aayog Member Dr Joram Aniya. The interaction centered on translating the state's strategic growth vision into tangible progress with sustained institutional backing from the central policy think tank. Key topics on the agenda included upgrading regional transport links, expanding tourism footfall, boosting agro-processing capacity, and deepening school-level educational innovation across the state.
Value Addition for Local Ginger Production
Agricultural enhancements formed a major part of the policy dialogue between the state leadership and the visiting delegation. The central policy body had officially designated Mizoram as the Ginger Capital of India in 2025 in recognition of its substantial agricultural output. During the meeting, both sides examined targeted measures to scale up processing facilities, refine supply chains, and build robust marketing networks for locally grown ginger. Establishing modern post-harvest infrastructure is seen as essential to helping local farmers secure better commercial value for their yield.
Strategic Transit Infrastructure and Tourism Expansion
Connectivity projects also received significant attention, with particular focus on the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP). Once the infrastructure reaches full operational status, the corridor is slated to provide Mizoram with an alternative multimodal transit link connecting the state with Paletwa and the Sittwe Port in Myanmar. The Chief Minister and Dr Aniya reviewed roadmap strategies to ensure that Mizoram maximizes commercial and logistics benefits once the transit network is completed. Alongside transit infrastructure, the discussions explored targeted initiatives to draw higher volumes of tourists to the state.
Expanding Innovation Labs and Regional Cooperation
Nurturing practical scientific learning among school students was another key priority highlighted during the engagement. Discussions focused on broadening the footprint of Atal Tinkering Labs across additional educational institutions throughout Mizoram. Dr Aniya arrived in Aizawl primarily to take part in the NITI Aayog Regional Workshop focused on the Northeastern Region. As part of this broader regional push, she has held consultative meetings with Chief Ministers and Governors across several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura, to identify economic accelerators. Chief Minister Lalduhoma appreciated the central body's responsiveness to state requirements, while Dr Aniya reaffirmed ongoing cooperation to support local developmental milestones.
