In an effort to expand digital transit options across the state capital of Aizawl, the Mizoram government is deliberating a three-month extension for commercial transport operators to sign up on the Mizotaxi platform. The primary goal behind extending the enrollment window is to onboard a significantly higher number of vehicles, thereby strengthening the reliability and reach of app-based commute options for the general public.
Coordination Committee Weighs Transport Proposal
The proposal to give operators additional time was formally taken up during a session of the Coordination Committee on Traffic Management, which was chaired by Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena. During the deliberations, officials focused on enhancing overall urban mobility and optimizing traffic management in Aizawl. Administrative officials highlighted that granting a three-month grace period will allow independent operators and vehicle owners who missed earlier timelines to complete their verification and integrate smoothly into the state-backed network.
Ensuring Regulated Fares Since July Launch
Designed specifically to streamline public commuting in the city, the Mizotaxi mobile application was officially rolled out on July 1. A key driving factor behind the platform's creation was the need to eliminate arbitrary pricing and prevent commuters from being overcharged. Through the service, passengers can cross-check government-approved fare structures directly on their mobile screens and pay standardized rates without ambiguity. The application currently caters to three distinct categories of public transit: two-wheeler taxis, four-wheeler cabs, and autorickshaws.
Over 1,500 Vehicles Onboarded Across Categories
Providing an update on the operational progress, Transport Department Secretary C Lalruaia stated that as of Friday, a total of 1,570 vehicles had completed their onboarding on the Mizotaxi platform. A segment-wise breakup shows strong participation from two-wheelers, with 1,149 two-wheeler taxis registered alongside 397 four-wheeler cabs and 24 autorickshaws. Public adoption has also grown steadily, with the system recording 28,553 ride bookings since its debut on July 1. Furthermore, on Friday alone, 279 drivers were logged in and actively serving rides across the city, highlighting the app's growing footprint in the local transit network.
