Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been executed so far, and the broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager's demise remains actively underway. An official spokesperson noted that a detailed statement will be released to the public as soon as investigators achieve a breakthrough in the ongoing probe.
Timeline of the Disappearance and Discovery
According to accounts shared by law enforcement, the young girl stepped out of her residence on August 3 at approximately 8.30 pm and failed to return home. Following her disappearance, local residents located her body on the morning of August 5 situated on the grounds of a government-run school located in Mualthuam North. In the immediate wake of this grim discovery, a formal case was registered at the Lunglei Police Station invoking Sections 103(1) and 140(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Formation of the Special Investigation Team
To ensure a thorough examination of the case, the Mizoram police department has established a dedicated three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT).
