The city of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh has long been recognized globally for its traditional metalcraft industry, earning the enduring title of Brass City. A large-scale metal trade thrives across the city, generating a wide variety of decorative objects, utensils, and spiritual artifacts. Recently, local workshops have introduced an intricately designed brass turtle idol that has captured widespread market attention. Artisans have carved detailed patterns and symbolic motifs across the shell of each turtle. Due to this specialized craftsmanship, demand for the piece has surged significantly within the domestic market and across borders, bringing in steady shipments overseas where the artifact is highly sought after for its role in Vastu Shastra.
Metal Casting Methods and Architectural Harmony
Brass merchant Raghav Khanna explained that workshops across Moradabad produce home decor items alongside a distinct lineup of Vastu-compliant brass artifacts. The carved brass turtle is among the newest additions to this portfolio, manufactured through traditional casting procedures. The molten metal is carefully poured into molds, cooled, and refined before craftspeople etch detailed patterns across its exterior. Raghav Khanna noted that buyers primarily acquire these brass turtles to align their living and working spaces with Vastu principles. The idol is placed in homes according to specific compass directions recommended in traditional architecture. Keeping this cast brass turtle inside residential premises is considered auspicious and believed to bring tangible household benefits, driving steady commercial interest.
Size Variations, Pricing Structure, and Global Reach
Workshops produce these brass turtles in dimensions ranging from 6 inches up to 24 inches in size. Domestically, the strongest retail and wholesale interest has emerged from South India, with Kerala generating notable order volumes. Beyond India, demand has gained traction across foreign countries wherever members of the Sanatan Dharma community reside and maintain traditional living practices. Regarding market pricing, the idols sell at a commercial rate of 2000 rupees per kilogram. Every carving on the shell corresponds to traditional Vastu symbolism, making each cast turtle both an ornamental showpiece and a functional architectural remedy.
