Chaotic scenes unfolded in the parking section of Calicut International Airport in Kerala when a group of six men attempted to kidnap a woman passenger arriving from an overseas journey. The suspects ambushed the traveller as she approached the vehicle bay, attempting to force her into their car. When nearby police officers rushed to intervene and rescue the woman, the gang launched an assault on the law enforcement team and drove their car directly at an officer while making a desperate escape. One police official sustained injuries during the encounter. Officers successfully rescued the passenger and apprehended two suspects on the spot, while four others managed to flee in their vehicle.
Gold Smuggling Angle Unravels Behind Abduction Attempt
What initially appeared to bystanders and emergency responders as a brazen daylight abduction soon turned into an intricate criminal revelation. Following the rescue, authorities questioned the woman and conducted a detailed search of her possessions, uncovering approximately 800 grams of undeclared gold. The passenger failed to produce any valid documentation or import paperwork for the precious metal, confirming that she had slipped past customs screening inside the terminal undetected. Investigators determined that the abduction attempt was orchestrated specifically to seize the smuggled gold in her possession. Following this discovery, police took the passenger into custody.
Sequence of Events Across the Terminal Parking Area
According to senior airport security officials, the incident began shortly after the woman landed from abroad and completed her arrival formalities. Another individual had arrived at the airport to receive her and was stationed in the parking zone awaiting her exit from the main building. As she walked out of the arrival terminal toward the parking lot to meet her contact, six men intercepted her path and formed a cordon around her. The group attempted to overpower her and drag her inside their waiting vehicle. Sensing grave danger, the woman raised an alarm and cried out for help, drawing immediate attention across the parking facility.
Violent Confrontation With Police and Vehicle Assault
The distress calls reached a police team stationed nearby, prompting officers to sprint toward the scene to protect the traveller. The suspects showed no hesitation upon spotting the approaching police force, continuing their attempt to push the woman into their car. As officers closed in, the men turned violent and engaged in a physical confrontation with the security personnel. An officer attached to the Karipur police station was injured in the ensuing struggle. While police managed to overpower and pin down two members of the gang, the remaining four jumped into their car and sped toward the exit. In their bid to escape interception, the driver steered directly at the officers attempting to block their path, leaving one police officer seriously injured.
Custody Transfer to Customs and Ongoing Search Operations
Following the scuffle, police secured the crime scene and detained the two caught suspects along with the individual who had been waiting in the parking lot to collect the passenger. The woman, along with her companion and the recovered 800 grams of illegal gold, was handed over to customs authorities for formal investigation and prosecution under import regulations. Preliminary police inquiries revealed that the gang members involved in the operation hail from the Nadapuram locality. Law enforcement agencies have mobilized search teams across the region to track down and arrest the four fugitives who fled the scene.
